Navdurga of Mulshi – Bhavani Mata, Pirangut
We are about to explore the Navdurga (nine goddesses) of Mulshi taluka and learn about their significance. Let’s start with the Bhavani Mata temple, located on the hill in Pirangut village. The temple of Bhavani Mata, the presiding deity of Pirangut village, dates back to the era of Chatrpati Shivaji Maharaj. According to legend, during the reign of Chatrpati Shivaji Maharaj, Baji Pasalkar fought a battle in this region, drove away the enemies, and later built this temple of Bhavani Mata here. The temple houses two idols of Bhavani Mata made of black stone – one from the era of Chatrpati Shivaji Maharaj and the other more recent. Over time, the temple did not receive much attention, but the people of Pirangut have now renovated it. The old temple has been preserved, and a grand hall (sabha mandap) has been constructed outside. Additionally, the temple trust organizes various social programs throughout the year in the temple premises. During the Navratri festival, the trust conducts various programs over the course of nine days. More information about the temple will be shared soon.
