Ghangad Fort

Ghangad

Standing majestically on the mountain peak of the Sahyadri ranges, Ghangad is an ideal spot for a one-day trek. With an easy climb and an iron ladder placed at difficult spots, this fort offers a panoramic view of the cliffs and valleys of the Sahyadri. To the west of the fort, one can see Sudhagad, Sarasgad, and Telbaila. The deep valley between Telbaila and Ghangad attracts attention. This historically significant fort is located on the western ridge of Sheve, in the Maval taluka of Pune.

Ghangad is a fort located in the Pune district of Maharashtra, India. It is situated in the heart of the village, easily accessible from Bhambarde and Akole, after traveling from Lonavala. The fort is not very difficult to climb but is quite beautiful. The main entrance of the fort still exists today. The Waghjai temple, the pathway leading to the water tank, are some of the key features of the fort. Although the main gate of the fort is now almost ruined, the top of the fort still has remains of the Chilkati bastion, some ruined houses, and five to six water tanks. The view of Sudhagad from the fort is exceptional, and Telbaila, across the valley, looks beautiful too. The fort has been renovated by an organization called Shivaji Trails (as of September 2013). You can spend a relaxing day with your family on this fort.
